Experience shows a direct link between regular attendance and successful course completion. At Innocent Hearts, students are expected to:
- Attend every class and arrive on time. Skipping class is not acceptable and will delay the credit.
- Provide a doctor's note for absences related to medical or dental appointments and for illnesses longer than three days.
- Have a parent or guardian (for students under 18) phone the school on the day of any absence. If no call is made, the student must bring a signed note explaining the absence on their return.
- Obtain a late slip from the principal before entering class if arriving 15 minutes or more after the start time.
- Understand that unexplained absences are deducted from the hours required to earn the credit.
- For online courses, submit a timesheet recording attendance across online and offline learning activities.
Parents are informed by email or phone if a student misses classes on two or more consecutive days in a week or regularly leaves early. If you must miss a class, email your teacher with the reason.
Attendance and participation count toward the final mark: 15% in Grades 9 and 10, and 10% in Grades 11 and 12. See Assessment and Evaluation for the full breakdown.
