Innocent Hearts Secondary School provides online resources for students and teachers through online courses, learning platforms and training — including all material accessed through any electronic device or telecommunications network.
All school policies, procedures and codes of behaviour apply to anyone using the school's online systems. This code protects the rights and safety of every member of our community, and the school reserves the right to monitor use of its online resources and learning tools.
Individual safety rules
- Never reveal personal information (name, address, phone number, age, physical description or school) to strangers online or in public forums.
- Never share personal information about someone else without their permission.
- Never reveal your password or anyone else's.
- Never send a picture of yourself or others without the informed permission of everyone involved — and, for minors, their parents or guardians.
- Immediately report to a teacher any message or request that bothers you or suggests personal contact.
- Never publish dates, times or locations of school activities to people who are not entitled to that information.
Unacceptable sites and materials
It is impossible to fully control content on a global network. Users must not intentionally access inappropriate material, and must report any accidental access to a teacher immediately. Users of Innocent Hearts online systems will not knowingly access, upload, download, store, display, distribute or publish any information that:
- Is illegal, or advocates or facilitates illegal activity.
- Threatens or intimidates any person, or suggests violence, hatred or discrimination.
- Uses inappropriate or abusive language or conduct.
- Violates the rights of others under school policy, Ministry of Education policy, the Ontario Human Rights Code or the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
- Is racially, culturally or religiously offensive.
- Encourages the use of controlled substances or criminal activity.
- Is defamatory, abusive, obscene, profane, pornographic or sexually explicit.
- Contains personal information, images or signatures of others without their informed consent.
- Constitutes harassment or contains inappropriate romantic overtones.
- Solicits users for commercial purposes without authorization, or constitutes spam or chain messages.
- Hides, disguises or misrepresents the identity of the sender.
Use guidelines
- Use school systems for learning purposes only.
- Respect the work, privacy and devices of others.
- Report any harm to the system or its information to the appropriate authority, whether accidental or intentional.
